Technology advances, industries grow, etc. Professionals big and small are busy and need help in

their office - BUT not IN their office. Consequently, they hire people to take care of these tasks for them. Personal Assistants, Office Assistants, Executive Assistants have always been around; the idea of an assistant is nothing new. Though, with modern technology, we have has opened a mysterious new door: the VA, Virtual Assistant. One can take care of all of the same tasks as a traditional assistant, but virtually!

Job Description

A virtual assistant will arrange travel dates, update calendars, respond to emails, arrange meetings, etc. Basically, a virtual assistant takes care of the small but yet necessary tasks that for a business to run. An executive may ask for more specific tasks to be done by a virtual assistant, it depends on the employer. Usually, virtual assistant jobs have no prerequisites, except ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, follow-thru, communicate, represent the company professionally.


Salary

The US nation-wide average salary for a virtual assistant is $36,000: this is a fair salary for a job that doesn’t require a degree or certification. There is also potential to make more if one can secure a position as a virtual assistant for a wealthy person, as they typically pay more. There are reports of VA's commanding over $80,000+ per year and free-lancing for several professionals at a time. You can apply directly to the company or offer services on sites such as FIVERR.COM.

Hours

Since virtual assistants are freelancers, they do not necessarily have set hours they work. Typically, their employer will give them a set of tasks and a deadline to complete them by. As such, being a virtual assistant allows one to spend more time with friends and family, work, attend school, etc. So long as the virtual assistant completes all the tasks they are assigned, the job can be done in just a few hours a day - this can be the most appealing part of the job!

Opportunities

Due to the nature of the job, one does not need to worry about location; anyone can be a virtual assistant for a company or person, even in a different time zone. Job posting websites are a good place to start, it can give you a good idea of how much you can expect to make and what companies are looking to hire. Additionally, important people may also require a virtual assistant but may be too busy to find one; sending a professional email offering your services can be beneficial and it shows initiative.

Overall, being a virtual assistant is a relatively new job that has lots of potential for tech-savvy people. This is advantageous because those who are the most fluent in technology are typically younger, they usually have a harder time making money so this is a great opportunity for them.
