How to find your dream career, when nothing interests you?

Many people settle for a job that pays them a decent amount and deal with it or they work a job they love for little money. Ideally, one would want a career path that would satisfy them, both financially and mentally. So, how does one discover and attain this elusive “dream career.” Well, depending on where one is in life, the steps can be different.

Experiment in School

If you are young and still in school, this is the option for you. Research the elective classes your school offers and try a wide variety of them, especially if you do not quite know what you are passionate about. Those who have an idea of what they like should focus more on classes relating to their preferred area of interest, while also trying new classes.

Apply For Internships

For someone not attending school and knowing a job that they would be happy doing, internships are a great way to go. Hands-on experience is gained in a specific field of work, allowing one to see what that career really looks like. It also makes known the different career paths that become available to someone in that specific field.

Discover New Hobbies

Trying new hobbies like exercise, art, mechanics, fashion, etc. can serve as broad learning opportunities that can funnel down into more specific areas of interest. This strategy is useful for finding something one likes, it is not as useful for getting a job. This is also a spectacular way to find like-minded individuals and learn from them about different hobbies, which conveniently leads to the next point.

Meet New People

It seems trivial but surrounding yourself with adventurous people who will push you out of your comfort zone can help you realize what you truly care about. They are usually the type of people who will encourage you to chase your dreams, plus they can have lots of knowledge about the things you want to try. They can even help by introducing you to people who can help you get employed, building connections with people is one of the most powerful ways to make progress in one’s career and life.

Find Professional Help

Finally, and most effectively, one can seek out the help of a professional. There are those who are dedicated to helping others find their dream career; the sooner you start looking for help, the better! While this journey can be completed alone, it is easy to get lost or lose momentum. Professionals will keep you on track and help you plan effectively.
